Joep Vossebeld | curator | writer | artist
Maastricht, The Netherlands
.
"The root of the word curator -curare, to care for- guides my work. Caring for a place and its community is as important as being responsible for an exhibition or artistic programme. Human life and nature; stories and ideals; visitors and volunteers come together in long-term collaborations with artists. It means that, as a curator, I prefer to operate in the background. After all: providing a stage for others starts by taking a step back yourself."
Joep Vossebeld (1989) studied Fine Arts in Maastricht and at Sint Lukas Academy in Brussels, in 2015/2016 he was a participant at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. As a curator, he is associated with Odapark, a centre for contemporary art in Venray. He also works(ed) as a guest curator for Bonnefantenmuseum and SCHUNCK, among others. One day a week, Joep teaches at the Toneelacademie Maastricht, Teacher & Director course. In the STUDIO series, he writes monthly reports on studio visits for cultural magazine ZOUT..
